Nearly 100 churches have signed up for 5 Talent Academy
As of August 20, 95 churches had enrolled in the 5 Talent Academy and will be participating in the first Big Teaching Event Oct. 1 at River Road UMC in Richmond. Sept. 6 Labor Day Offering will support workplace chaplains
The Virginia Conference will mark Sunday, Sept. 6, as Labor Day Offering Sunday for Industrial and Commercial Ministries (ICM). ICM, through volunteer chaplains, brings “a caring presence” to thousands each week at their places of employment. These chaplains, lay and clergy, serve in hospitals, nursing homes, fire, rescue and police departments, factories, auto dealerships, fitness centers and airports, making visits each week. 2 Virginians participating in ‘Mozambique Round Table’ in Germany
Denise Honeycutt, Conference director of Mission and Global Justice, and Rosemary Welch, Mozambique chair for Initiatives of Hope, are in Düsseldorf, Germany, Aug. 23-30 participating in a “Mozambique Round Table” hosted by Germany Bishop Rosemarie Wenner and Mozambique Bishop Joaquina Nhanala. Members of the United Methodist Church in Mozambique are meeting with representatives of partners in the Missouri Conference, Troy Conference, Virginia Conference, North and South Germany Conferences and the Brazil Methodist Church to plan ways to work together to meet needs identified by the church in Mozambique.

Missionaries to Congo now visiting in Virginia
United Methodist missionaries Jacques Akasa Umembudi and his wife, Poto Valentine Shutsha, are visiting their covenant churches in Virginia now through October. The couple are missionaries of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church assigned to the Wings of Caring Aviation Ministry in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. They have three sons: Akasa Umembudi Mignon, Shamba Umembudi Gigi, and Otoko Umembudi Dennis. ‘From ORDINARY to EXTRAORDINARY Leadership’ workshop is Oct. 17
Are you new to a leadership position in your church?  Want to sharpen your leadership skills? The "From ORDINARY to EXTRAORDINARY Leadership" workshop will be offered at Ebenezer UMC in Stafford on Saturday, Oct. 17. It is primarily designed for new church leaders/emerging leaders, although anyone interested in leadership development will benefit. UMVIM Team Leader training to be held Oct. 24 at Kenbridge UMC
The 2009 Virginia Conference United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) Team Leader training will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Kenbridge United Methodist Church Kenbridge, Va. Team Leader Training is required for all first-time UMVIM team leaders leading teams locally, nationally or globally; but all interested persons are welcome to attend whether leading a team or not.
