Wednesday Evening Session

Conference clergy and lay members gathered in Roanoke, beginning June 15, for the 229th session of the Virginia Annual Conference.

The Clergy Session was held in the Performing Arts Center, while the Laity Session was held at the same time in the Civic Center.

Laity were introduced to the conference lay leader, Mrs. Shirley Cauffman. The lay members were told what to expect over the next couple of days during conference sessions. Bishop Tim Whitaker of the Florida Conference will be presiding over the conference. Bishop Charlene Kammerer is unable to attend because of illness. Shirley recognized Martha Stokes, who is the conference staff person related to the Board of Laity.

Singing was led by the Rev. Wes Astin, accompanied by Jim Bennett. Sara Pugh, a member of the Young Adult Council, gave the opening prayer. Charlie Harless, also a Young Adult Council Member, preached a sermon (mp3 sound file) on "Finding Our Place in the Church."
