Virginia United Methodists gave $281,000+ on #Giving Tuesday
The General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) online tracking reports show that United Methodists in the Virginia Conference gave 577 gifts totaling $281,061.74 to mission projects on #Giving Tuesday last Dec. 3. Among many projects receiving contributions were: Mercy Hospital in Sierra Leone ($57,825), Child Rescue Center in Sierra Leone ($48,900), UMCOR Disaster Response ($29,420 – much of it designated for Typhoon Haiyan relief) and UMCOR Philippines ($11,296.25). Also, $13,165 was given to the Jeremiah Project headquartered in Virginia, $10,430 to Society of St. Andrew, $6,742 to Appalachia Service Project, $4,075 to Just Neighbors and $2,225 to Caretakers of God's Creation.      GBGM had announced earlier that the first-ever UMC #GivingTuesday generated a record $6.5 million online in one day. Nearly 11,000 donors in 34 countries gave more than 16,300 gifts through The Advance to mission and ministries they believe in. More ...

Conference seeks bookkeeper/accountant
The Virginia Conference seeks a full-time bookkeeper/accountant to work in the Treasurer’s office. Responsibilities include accounting entries, account reconciliations, working with churches and other administrative work. This position requires attention to detail and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills in a team environment. Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Excel is required. Membership and/or knowledge of The United Methodist Church is beneficial but not required. Applicants should have experience or education in bookkeeping or similar office work.
