Bishop Cho calls for prayer for 'Day of Conversation'
Bishop Young Jin Cho has issued a letter to all Virginia Conference United Methodists calling on them to pray for this Saturday's "Day of Holy Conversation." "The issues relating to human sexuality have been very difficult for The United Methodist Church for many years," Bishop Cho wrote. "This issue has been dividing our churches, and we have been experiencing pain." Because of that, he said he believes "this is the time to listen and pray together to find a better way to deal with this issue." More ...

Watch 'Holy Conversation' live stream on website, Facebook
Live streaming of Saturday's "Day of Holy Conversation" will be available beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, from the Virginia Conference website and from the Virginia Conference Facebook page. The live streaming will show opening worship, Bishop Young Jin Cho's sermon and a presentation by three panelists in the morning. Live streaming will be stopped from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for participant conversation groups and lunch. The afternoon presentation by four panelists and two discussion participants will be shown beginning at 1 p.m. with a break from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. for conversation groups. Follow-up information has been prepared from a variety of sources by members of the "Day of Holy Conversation" Presenter Committee. These resources include:
1. Holy Conversation Guide (pdf) that includes a message from Bishop Young Jin Cho, schedule for the day, Touchstones for Creating Hospitable Space, small group questions and biographical information about the presenters.
2. Historical Timeline (pdf) of unity and division within The United Methodist Church and its predecessor entities, including a history of disciplinary statements/changes on the question of homosexuality
3. 2016 General Conference petition submission instructions (pdf) with specifics about how to write and submit a petition to the 2016 General Conference in order to make changes to The United Methodist Book of Discipline.

DVDs of event to be made available
The Day of Holy Conversation will be recorded, and DVDs of the event will be available to be used for additional conversations in districts and local churches. DVDs are expected to be available from the conference Communications Office early in December. In addition, the live stream of the "Day of Holy Conversation" will be archived on the web at http://new.livestream.com/VAUMC/HolyConversation and can be viewed at any time.
