Ted Smith  asks for 'safe space' for delegates

Near the end of the Church and Society B legislative session, a ballot revealed action to retain current 2012 BOD language regarding sexuality.

The legislative Committee immediately began to hear shouts of anger, endure  hostile verbal confrontation, and endure berating remarks from within and outside the bar.

When the time came for legislative committee dismissal, the protesters gathered outside the doors of the Church and Society B meeting room forming (literally) a human gauntlet forcing the delegates to walk through them to exit the room.

Why is it that the creation of a "safe space" is reserved for LGBTQ persons and supporters? Why is it acceptable for delegates to suffer unsafe space, hostile confrontation, and an absence of mercy while fulfilling our responsibilities?

We see applause for sermons calling for mercy and we hear pleas for "safe space" during General Conference; but the proponents of "safe space" don't hesitate to create a hostile environment & didn't seem to think twice about causing delegates to feel in danger during their hostile confrontation and threatening behavior.

I'm a big guy who's fully capable of defending myself when my danger and safety warming alarms are set off, but why should I have to wonder if I'll have to defend myself in my legislative room and in plenary?

Why should delegates be forced to walk a gauntlet immediately after being shouted at and confronted in aggressive and hostile ways.

Shame on all who engage in this hypocrisy!! Shame on all who demand something they are not willing to honor!

Ted Smith
